Space to Explore
Dialogue, shared learning, and exploration are essential in JYLA. This year of service is about being challenged in new ways, expanding your comfort zone, learning from caring individuals with different experiences than your own, and sharing your gifts with world. As a community, we share meals, watch movies, discuss meaningful issues, confront conflict, share passions, laugh until it hurts, and teach one another what it means to change the world - sometimes from the inside out.
A MAGICAL CITY
Los Angeles is so much more than the city you see on the screen. It is a city full of great beauty and rich culture - as well as great poverty and need. JYLA fellows engage the latter in service but there is so much time during the year to soak up the sun and fun that L.A. has to offer.
A sprawling tapestry of communities, Los Angeles has amazing restaurants, beautiful beaches, quirky little bookshops, parks and trails, enriching museums, galleries, and more music venues than you can imagine! Add to that the fact that L.A. is just a road trip away from San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Yosemite, Sequoia, Lake Tahoe, and a year is never enough time to see all this wonderful place has to offer.
