A year in a new place can be difficult. That’s where Mentors and Partner Congregations come in.

Our Mentors

At the beginning of each year, corps members get placed with a mentor-- a tour guide to the real LA, a shoulder to cry on, or a person with whom to explore your spiritual journey. Our mentors come from all walks of life and are more than willing to support corps members in whatever ways they need during their service year.
I loved meeting with and supporting [my corps member] during their year of service. As much as she learned and gained from my presence, I, too, walked away with so much extra love, joy, and knowledge from the experience!

Taina Longin Mentor & 2012-13 Alum

Inviting corps members into my family for the year is a beautiful thing. I get to support a young adult while my kids get to look up to someone. It’s a win-win. Also, they make great BBQ guests

Our Spiritual Communities

Whether in need of a home cooked meal, spiritual direction, or a place to belong, our partner congregations exist to fill those voids and more. JYLA has partnered with congregations all over the greater Los Angeles area to provide an additional tier of intentional community for its corps members.

Our corps members come from religious and non-religious backgrounds. We understand that. That’s why our partner congregations do way more than just gather on Sundays. From guerilla gardening to kickboxing and Zumba, there are so many ways to get involved!
I've had the pleasure of getting to know the 2018-19 corps members and I'm so impressed with the maturity and thoughtfulness of these young adults. I continue to be amazed with their depth of spirituality, awareness, and openness to the new people and experiences they are exposed to every day.

The Rev. Holly Cardone | St. Stephen's Hollywood Priest

Corps members are a refreshing, beautiful addition to our community. As much as we enrich them with our presence and support, they enrich us with their unique perspectives and their readiness to get their hands dirty!

The Rev. Francisco Garcia | Holy Faith Inglewood Priest
